Ikebana display @ Salon Musa by Mr. Kan

Salon Musa installs a new ikebana display in our window front every month. We work with respected ikebana teacher and artist, Mr. Kan to create these unique, organic, seasonal displays.

This month we wanted to create a display that was rather humble and hopeful in unison with the concept that after a long, harsh winter, spring always comes with her greenery and life - sprouting renewed vitality. We never seize to marvel each year at the wonderment of the spring season.

Out of the dried and stiff palm leaves, green moss and an orchid arise. Birds fly back to us and enjoy the fine spring weather with replenished spirits.

We dedicate this month's display to all the people of Japan who have suffered from the events of March 11, 2011. We, at Salon Musa feel the effects of this terrible disaster as we have many friends and family members residing in Japan. We extend our condolences to all that have suffered and lost something or someone in this calamity.

We hope that our ikebana display in collaboration with Mr. Kan bequeaths a sense of HOPE to our fellow Japanese New Yorkers, who endure this disaster from a painful distance. We also extend this HOPE to ALL of New York (WE <3 You!!).

No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.
