Ikebana display @ Salon Musa by Mr. Kan

Salon Musa installs a new ikebana display in our window front every month. We work with respected ikebana teacher and artist, Mr. Kan to create these unique, organic, seasonal displays.

This month we wanted to create a display that was rather humble and hopeful in unison with the concept that after a long, harsh winter, spring always comes with her greenery and life - sprouting renewed vitality. We never seize to marvel each year at the wonderment of the spring season.

Out of the dried and stiff palm leaves, green moss and an orchid arise. Birds fly back to us and enjoy the fine spring weather with replenished spirits.

We dedicate this month's display to all the people of Japan who have suffered from the events of March 11, 2011. We, at Salon Musa feel the effects of this terrible disaster as we have many friends and family members residing in Japan. We extend our condolences to all that have suffered and lost something or someone in this calamity.

We hope that our ikebana display in collaboration with Mr. Kan bequeaths a sense of HOPE to our fellow Japanese New Yorkers, who endure this disaster from a painful distance. We also extend this HOPE to ALL of New York (WE <3 You!!).

No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.

Hair Trend Forecast S/S 2011

We're seeing body perms and curls everywhere! Who wouldn't want to achieve this amazing look (above)!?

In an interview with Chopsticks NY, Bushi comments,

"I think the perms that characterized the 90’s will become popular again. I believe that customers are going to ask for this when they get sick of their hair and want to do something different, whether it is a natural wave look or tighter curls."

We love the look and feel of the 90s here and we think you'll love it too :)

The Interior

This place is mash of our tastes and collective effort to make a space that puts us, our friends and clients at ease.

Salon Musa and it's interior concept was born of both Bushi and Yasuko's distinct tastes. No fancy interior decorators were hired here!

The ceramics, trinkets, antiques, and even our fishes were humbly collected over a long period of time, in hopes that one day, Salon Musa would become a reality.

We're glad to share it with all of you so if you haven't come to Salon Musa yet, check it out. Even if it's just to see our crazy antique barber chairs...

We love talking hair and INTERIOR DESIGN!
